Biography for Kevin O'Connor
Kevin O'Connor is a rare find who hails from the epicenter of 1960s music culture. As a young man and budding musician, he worked stage crew for the legendary Bill Graham at both Woodstock and the storied Fillmore East in New York City. He's personally met and helped support the stage needs of the legends of the genre, including Hendrix, The Who, Grateful Dead, CSN&Y, and Jeff Beck. Thus, he knows a thing or two about music production and rock history. He was not more than thirty feet from Jimi Hendrix during his electric sendoff of the Star Spangled Banner.
Musically, Kevin is a finger style acoustic steel string player covering many genres. His early music career was focused on the folk scene typical of the era. Later, with the introduction of the Beatles, he became interested in the rock sound and has subsequently branched in out into everything from folk, to Jazz, to Brazilian. He includes among his greatest music influences, The Beatles, Steely Dan, and Stevie Wonder.
A regular in and around the Boston music scene for decades, he has played many clubs in the area, including Ryle's, and Inn-Square Men's Bar. He has singing and writing collaborations with many Boston area musicians including Steve Stone and world renown vocalist Phil Hamilton (who has performed with Donald Fagen and Pat Matheny). Music partners have included Didi Stewart, Dennis Brennan, Richard Gates, and Catherine David. He has produced musical events at Ryles, Colonial Inn, The Bull Run, and Green Street Studios.
Kevin loves to teach music, focusing on voicings and arrangement. Kevin also does work as a voice actor and for seven years hosted a show on Brandise University Radio, WBRS, 100.1 FM.
